DIVISION 2A leaders Stoney Rovers caused a massive upset in the third round of the Aircon Mech Wexford Cup by knocking out holders New Ross Celtic on penalties after a 2-2 draw. Goals from Stephen Bennett and Garry O'Brien put the holders 2-0 ahead, but normal service seemed to have resumed when Paul Phelan netted a double, one from the penalty spot, to force extra-time.

However, no further goals were forthcoming and Stoney Rovers won the penalty shoot-out 3-0 with Paul Doyle, Stephen Bennett and Gary O'Grady scoring from 12 yards, while for New Ross Celtic Paul Phelan hit the bar, Michael Grangel drove his spot-kick wide and Seán Culleton saw his effort well saved by Paddy Colfer.

Gorey Rangers were another Premier Division side left licking their wounds after they were beaten at home by Division 2 side Campile. The visitors won 4-1 on penalties after a 1-1 draw, with Paddy McMahon getting the goal for the winners.

Ajax were another top flight casualty as goals from David Dunbar and Peter Murphy saw the Enniscorthy men lose 2-1 to Division 2 side Wexford Celtic

There was no such worries for the other Premier Division sides, with Duncannon, Ferns United, Park Hotspur and Shamrock Rovers all going through.

Duncannon comfortably saw off Rosslare Rangers B 5-0 with goals from Adam Parle, Tom Elmes, Keith Donnelly, Ronan McDonald and an own goal, while Ferns needed an extra-time winner from Derek Thorpe to edge out Bridge Rovers 3-2. Tomás 'Ducker' Hawkins and Tommy Dwyer got their other goals.

Park Hotspur overcame last year's beaten finalists Crossabeg 4-1. The winners led 4-0 at halftime with goals from Francis Dempsey, Peter Marsden, Deccie Goodison and Lee Smith before Joe Keeling scored a second-half consolation for Crossabeg.

Shamrock Rovers beat Bunclody 2-0 with goals from Martin McKeown and David Whelan.

Corach Ramblers inflicted a surprisingly heavy defeat on St. Leonards, winning 5-0 with Niall Harney (2), John White, Alan Diskin and Stephen Diskin getting on the scoresheet, while Cloughbawn beat All Blacks 5-3 on penalties after a 2-2 draw.

New Ross Town proved too strong for Enniscorthy Town's second string, winning 4-0 with goals from Junior Somers (2), Mick Walsh and Jason Murphy.

St. Cormac's also had a comfortable passage to the next round with a 3-0 win over Moyne Rangers, with Gavin Kerr, Marty Kelly (penalty) and Jason Somers getting the goals.

North End United chalked up the biggest win of the day, putting 11 past Bridge Rovers B without reply. Craig McGuire and Paul Breen scored hat-tricks, while Andy Moore, Trevor Berry, Keith Furlong, Adam Lawlor and Justin Whitty added a goal apiece.

Curracloe United also had a routine win, with Darren Doyle, Stephen O'Connor, Brian O'Connor and Killian Connor getting on the scoresheet in a 4-0 triumph over Crossabeg C.

Elsewhere, Stoney Rovers' second string completed a memorable day for the club, beating St. Michael's 2-0 with second-half goals from Shane Kilkenny and Willie Banville.
