New Ross Town academy continues to grow, with nearly ten new faces turning up on Saturday last to Good Counsel College. The youngest group was split into two groups due to the large numbers.

Freddie O'Neill, Conor Rossiter and Niall Mooney all had good games in the Under-5s. Bobby Nolan shone in the Under-6s with his strong tackling and no-nonsense defending, with Oisin Brennan and Ryan Bolger also having good games.

The defenders were again to the fore in the Under-7 age group, with Raymond Roche and Conor Redmond playing very well and improving every week. Edward Fitzgerald also had a good game and did well in the skills on Saturday, showing some fancy footwork.

In the older group, a recent newcomer has shone in the last two weeks. Peter Moffett is definitely one to watch for the future as he is comfortable shooting with either foot. Philip Bola also had a great game, getting some crucial goals, with Lauren Rossiter putting in a strong show for the girls.

New members are still welcome every Saturday and can contact Liam Rossiter on 087-9340968. The cost is only ¤3 for the hour, with Under-7s from 11-12 and Over-7s from 12-1. All are welcome.

The ladies' team had a long journey away to Carnew on Sunday last. They were a goal down early on but were denied a clear penalty, only for the opposition to counter-attack quickly. They themselves were awarded a penalty and made it 2-0.

Some more dubious refereeing saw the ladies go in at half-time four goals behind. The second-half saw the Ross girls come out strongly with Ann Carroll, who was exceptional at midfield, beginning the fightback with an excellent early goal.

Two more goals followed quickly, with Josephine Murphy getting both to bring the score back to 4-3. With the Ross girls on the front foot, another controversial decision followed, with the referee awarding Carnew their third penalty and finishing the game off (5-3).

The men had no game last weekend as the Wexford Oscar Traynor team were playing. David Purcell played a key part, with the Wexford team beating a much-fancied A.U.L. 1-0. The club would like to wish David all the best as they prepare to take on the Defence Forces in the semi-finals in a few weeks' time.
