Murphy in action for Irish Schools

Wednesday February 03 2010

WEXFORD TEEN Jack Tim Murphy earned his first Irish international cap last week when coming on as a substitute in the Republic of Ireland U-18 Schools versus Australian Schools friendly international fixture at the Oscar Traynor complex in Dublin.

Irish manager Dave Archbold fully utilised his 20-strong squad with one eye on next month's Carnegie Centenary Shield which kicks off with a clash with Northern Ireland in Athlone on St. Patrick's Day.

He was naturally delighted with his side's efficient 3-1 win over the visitors. Murphy impressed with a series of threatening runs down the left flank as the Irish threatened to add to their tally.

Showcasing some great dribbling skills, Murphy has made great strides in recent seasons, now playing his club football with a vibrant Arklow Town side. In the three seasons since the move to the Wicklow club he has earned recognition from near and far with a three week pre-season at Sheffield United proving pivotal in Murphy's progression this term, the Yorkshire club now associated with the Arklow club through a partnership agreement.

The Curracloe native has enjoyed two Foyle Cup successes with Arklow Town and his versatility in being able to operate on either flank or through the middle has attracted interest from a number of English clubs.

Indeed, Murphy has been in and around a number of Irish national squads in the past year or two, with Irish U-18 manager Seán McCaffrey continually monitoring his progress.

Another to monitor Murphy's progress in recent years is his Principal at St. Peter's College, Pat Quigley, and he too will be keen to see his pupil upwardly mobile.
