Robinson's good spell
Wednesday March 10 2010
WEXFORD OWNER Willie Robinson is having a great run of late and his dogs are in top form, recording three wins in the past week.
'Willies Brindle' completed a hat-trick of wins when taking the last race on Thursday night, leading from trap to line to hold reserve 'Tyford Jane' in 33.66 (600 yards).
'Willies' then turned out as reserve on Saturday night at Waterford and duly made all to score, and on Monday of last week, 'Willies Blaze' put in the best run of the night when taking heat four of the Track Supporters' A5 Stake in 29.38. Willie has his dogs running in hot form despite the cold weather.
Another dog that's running hot is 'Kingsmill Honcho'. Following his good win last week, he went even quicker when taking the open race on Thursday night. He was led by 'Compass Bernie' to the last bend but then 'Kingsmill' took control to go on to score, going away in a best of the night 29.10 for owner Aidan Roche.
'Metric Daisy' has been running well for Larry Byrne, and she put up another fine effort when taking race two, an A2, going on at the first to score a convincing win in a good 29.23.
'Bridgmar Dash', owned by Diarmuid Franklin, c/o Jay Codd, has a good strike rate and added to that when taking the third race (A2) in a good 29.28 and making it five wins from eleven starts.
The A1 eighth race (575) saw an excellant spin from the Mairéad O'Gorman-owned and 'Shanks' Whelan-trained 'Tyford Comet' who led at the first bend, and there was no catching her as she powered to a superb 31.67 victory.
'Junkyard Jack' scored a nice win for Seán Cleary in the ninth race (575 A3) when getting the better of 'Uncle Arthur' in 32.50. Trainer Mary Buggy, just beaten in that race, had better luck in the seventh when her 'Kilgraney Sport' scored in 29.49.
Trainer John Kavanagh also got off the mark when the Tim Bowler-owned 'Critical Captain' was an impressive winner in a good 29.25 in the first race.
The Seánie Fenlon and Dean Harpur-owned 'Business Doc' put in a strong finish to get up in a three-way photo in race four to get the verdict from another to finish well, 'Make Haste', in 29.51.
The 'Compass' man from Cork had his usual six runners but had to settle for just one win when 'Compass Hodge' took race six in 29.35 (A1).
