Maria enjoys a week to savour

Wednesday December 23 2009

THURSDAY NIGHT last featured three finals at Enniscorthy Greyhound Track, and the Red Mills grand prize was the main event with ¤4,000 to the winner.

There was an excellent performance from the Maria Byrne-trained and Terry Corden-owned 'Perilous Guide' who sprang from trap two to go on to score from 'Olympic Tippi' in a fine 28.81 - his seventh victory from 17 starts and his best yet.

Earlier, trainer Maria Byrne was also on the mark when 'Bish Bash Bosh' also flew out of trap two to lead all the way and score by six and a half lengths in a fine 28.81 for the same owner, Terry Corden, and lift the November Unraced Stake of ¤1,800.

Indeed, it has been quite a week for the Waterfordbased trainer as she also took the Roban Financial A3 Dual Distance Stake final on the previous Monday night when 'Dysert Davdor' led also from trap two to score a convincing victory in 33.25 (600 yards).

The Tom Morrissey Memorial A3 Stake final went to the James Dempsey-owned 'Ah Boolavogue' who led trap to line to score by two and a half lengths in 29.37.

There were a few other notable performances during the night. In race two, 'Tweedle Dum' followed up her win from the previous week when racing to the front at the third bend to come home three and a half lengths to the good in 28.88 for John Kavanagh.

Race six was a 575 A1, and 'Clearview Kelly' put in a fine run, going to the front at the first bend and racing home four lengths clear in a fast 31.62 for owner Michael Frayne.

Going back to the previous Monday, the final of the Roban Financial and Mortgages/Track Supporters' A5 Goodbye Stake of ¤2,200 went to the Patrick Nolanowned 'Tain Ferdia' who led trap to line and recorded a hat-trick of wins in his best time so far of 29.43.

It was a great weekend for local dogs in Dublin. First on Friday night, the final of the Tote Gold Collar for ¤10,000 went to 'Archaton Pine', owned by David and Janice Jordan of Coolcotts, Wexford, again putting his great early pace to good use to score a superb victory.

Then on Saturday night, the Fatzboyz dream continued as 'Fatboyz Tyson' got out well from trap six and was neck and neck with hot favourite 'Tullamurry Act' to the third bend before powering away to score another memorable win in the final of the Comerford Cakes National Puppy Stake for Pat Gordon who has had a year never to forget.
