THE LADIES of the Clonard Badminton Club fifth division team justified the black belt in origami as they folded spectacularly in their final game in Piercestown against a well-prepared St. Martin's team.

Lisa Tyghe and Anne Kent won their opening set against Fiona Hayes and Orla Scallan, but that only antagonised St. Martin's who promptly won the remaining eight sets.

This result leaves Clonard close to the bottom of the table with only one victory, against Shelburne, to their credit.

St. Martin's Denise O'Leary, Anne Kent, Lisa Tyghe, Jenny Mooney.

division six

The ladies' sixth division team was also in action last week, when they visited St. Martin's.

John Meyler could take note of the indomitable spirit and unwillingness to concede, as the girls came from 18-11 down to win in straight sets. Every point was contested and there was nothing easy in any score. All the matches were nip and tuck before honours were shared (4-4).

St. Martin's Anne Kent, Lisa Tyghe, Jenny Mooney, Sharon Mooney.

knockout tourney

The eight-person knockout competition starts this week, with the fifth division team at home to Ballycogley, and Monaseed are the visitors for the sixth division.

In keeping with tradition, there will be no badminton in Scoil Mhuire on Holy Thursday, but the club will resume on Tuesday, March 25, with a normal club night. The Juvenile club members hold court on Thursday.

A happy Easter to all our players, supporters and followers.
