THE CURTAIN was brought down on the HSE Community Games national finals on Sunday, August 22, at Athlone I.T. Over the three weekends, children from all over the county participated with distinction in most of the activities.

AFTER WEEKS of pool cues being polished and blue chalk dust everywhere the final of the Community Development Project's annual pool tournament finally arrived.
James takes autograss title
A YOUNG racing enthusiast has scooped a top prize for autograss racing in a keenly contested competition in Wales. James Kent won the Junior Special category outright in Tenby, Wales, last weekend, beating off strong competition from twenty other competitors during the two day event. This win shows promising signs for the Aclare chap, who only started to race competitively in autograss since May. Since then he has taken home many racing titles from competitions in Lismore, Co. Waterford and in West Cork.
Ace display by youths
ANOTHER FANTASTIC run by the juvenile Model county handballers saw them once again overturn old rivals Kilkenny in the Leinster finals at Garryhill, Co. Carlow, recently, with Wexford taking home the winners' medals in the boys' Under-12 singles, Under-13 singles and Under-13 doubles.
'Luxurious' winner of big two-year-old race
THE CURTAIN came down on the last evening meeting of the year at Bettyville with a history-making flat fixture on Friday last. With the running of the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Fillies Maiden at 5.30 p.m., this race over one mile and half a furlong was the first ever exclusively targeted at twoyear-olds to be run at the Wexford track.
Murphy Memorial for Ferns
THE NEXT big road running event in County Wexford takes place this coming Saturday as Sliabh Buidhe Rovers A.C. will stage the Mick Murphy Memorial four miles road race and fun run. The run will start at 5.30 p.m., with entries being taken in Ferns Community Centre from 4 p.m.
Rally is a definite starter
AS THE closing date passes for the Riverbank House Hotel Dick Bailey stages rally 2010, the committee of Wexford Motor Club are fully committed to the running of this year's staging of this long-established rally.
'Coco' dashes to first heat success
THE SECOND round of the Reggie and Phil Turner Memorial Leger was completed on Thursday last, and heat one went to the Nick Turner-trained 'Coco Dash' owned by Oliver Flynn (Waterford).
Doran's Bridge defeat Monart to lay claim to Paddy Owens Cup
THE PADDY Owens Memorial tournament was held in Enniscorthy on Friday last. Division 1: Doran's Bridge 'A' beat Woodsmen in two straight games, 2110, 21-10 respectively. Division 2: Monart beat Doran's Bridge 'B' in two straight games, 21-11, 21-9 respectively.
Oisin hooks the big prize
A YOUNG Newbawn angler stole the show at the festival of fishing which was held in the Hook area last weekend.
