Wexford send out early message
THERE IS a special air surrounding the Wexford camogie side at the moment. An air of confidence, of expectation, of belief, of downright dogged determination, probably a combination of everything, but there is something strikingly different in the early stages of this new season.
Holders eye final spot
THE WEXFORD Intermediate camogie team are within one victory of a place in the National League Division 2 final following a comprehensive win over Galway in St. Patrick's Park, Enniscorthy, on Saturday afternoon last. The victory was as straightforward as the scoreline suggests as the visitors failed to register a second-half score with Wexford in completely dominant form.
Under-16 side begins campaign with home tie on Saturday
THE UNDER-16 county camogie team will get their season off to a start this coming Saturday when they play Dublin in Monamolin at 2 p.m. in the 'A' championship.
GRASS ROOTS: ST. JAMES' G.A.A.
The Intermediate footballers got their ACFL Premier B campaign off to a winning start on Saturday afternoon, dismissing the challenge of St. Mary's (Maudlintown) by 1-13 to 1-9 at Mersheen. Kevin O'Grady and Matthew O'Hanlon notched up the majority of the scores, with O'Grady grabbing the goal in the first-half.
New boss happy with his charges
CAMOGIE SUPREMO J.J. Doyle was understandably thrilled to see his side qualify for the league semi-finals following their eight-point victory over Galway in Enniscorthy on Saturday, and was particularly happy with how the game plan was executed.
Wexford exiles win Maher Cup
A NUMBER of Wexford players were members of the Napier University (Edinburgh) squad which won the Fergal Maher Cup last weekend.
Dubs downed with ease
WEXFORD EASED into their National Camogie League Division 1 campaign with a comfortable victory - as their defence kept a second-half shut-out - against Dublin in Monamolin on Sunday last.
Hurlers must step up
THIS WAS anything but a test of resolve for Wexford who still looked far from impressive as they eventually fashioned out a 14-point victory over a very limited Down outfit in this Allianz Hurling League Division 2 game at Wexford Park on Sunday last. While it was business as usual for Wexford and the collection of a further two points, with Down fighting the good fight during the 70 minutes, this was still a game which gave the 400-odd attendance little to enthuse over, with home followers left pondering their side's future and ability to move out of lower grade hurling.
Tom spread helmet gospel
COME BACK with me in time to the Summer of '69. No, Woodstock is not our destination nor flower power the topic, but the times they were a changin' in the hurling world too. A college student from Cork wore a protective helmet as the Rebels and arch-rivals Tipperary clashed ash in the Munster Senior hurling championship final.
Winter league a big success
THE SIXTH annual Gorey District winter league finals in Under-13 hurling took place over the last week.
