Codd makes return to winning circle

JAMIE CODD made a return to the winning circle at the Island Hunt point-to-point at Ballydarragh on Sunday last. Sidelined since early on in the season from a fall which resulted in a broken leg, Codd showed that he has lost little of his enthusiasm or ability when booting home a fine double, with 'Spanish Arch' and 'Backstage' both winning.

RACING RETURNED to South West Wexford on January 29 with the Wexford Foxhounds point-to-point fixture at Moorfield, Ballinaboola. This track, first used in November of last year, looks like an ideal location for the future, with a good stiff track for horse and jockey, excellent viewing for racegoers, good on track facilities, ample parking and plenty of manpower. What more could you want?

DERMOT DAY adds another feather to his cap this season as he embarks on a new venture as he will stand 'Watar' as a stallion for the racing industry at his own Moortown Stud. Based near Ballycogley, south of Wexford town, Day has been immersed in horses all his life but is probably better known as a horse trainer, both on the track and in the point-to-point sector.

A LARGE crowd made their way to Fairwood Park for the Shillelagh and District point-to-point. Surprisingly the going was yielding, which obviously indicated the level of moisture that was in the soil in spite of the dry spell that has been encountered in the past few weeks.

THE WEXFORD Horseshoes Association are holding a meeting in Ferns on Wednesday, January 18, at 8 p.m. Among the items on the agenda will be the start of the transfer window - to clarify, this window will be open until the end of March, when the next meeting will take place. Anyone wishing to be transferred has to be present at the meeting.

LIZ DOYLE officially retired from race riding on December 31, and the Kitestown woman went out on a winner when partnering 'Mini Vic' at Tramore. Doyle has two young children and a racing yard to keep track of, and the four-times former point-topoint ladies' champion was visibly thrilled to win as she punched the air crossing the line.
