THE ANTHONY Larkin open doubles tournament was held in Enniscorthy on Saturday last. There was a very disappointing turn-out.
Winners' group final: Tom Connors and John Doyle Snr. beat John Joe Byrne and Eddie Larkin (21-20).
Losers' group final: Phil Mahon and Jim Sludds beat Michael Redmond and Devon Power (21-18).
The first open doubles tournament, for turkeys, was held in Ferns on Sunday last.
Semi-finals: John Joe Byrne (Woodsmen) and Louis McElwaine (Doran's Bridge) beat Pat Jordan (McCrea's) and Tom Rossiter (McCrea's), 21-15; Richard Collier (Doran's Bridge) and Peter Kenny (McCrea's) beat Jim Sludds (Ballyroe) and Peter (McCrea's), 21-19.
Final: John Joe Byrne and Louis McElwaine beat Richard Collier and Peter Kenny, 21-18.
It was a very close final, with some great throwing, and the lead changing hands several times.
There will be another tournament held for turkeys next week, in the Woodsmen's ground in Bunclody, with a 2.30 p.m. sharp start.
We hope to get a big turn-out. There will be turkeys for the first pair, and chickens for the runners-up.
