There was a terriffic turn-out of 180 ladies to kick off the first day of ladies' open week sponsored by loyal sponsors Murphy's Supervalu which proved to be a fantastic start to the week. Conditions were good with some sunshine and light wind, and the winning score was testament to these conditions: C. Metchette (24), 45 points.
On day two over 180 ladies played this openfFourball competition. Conditions were considerably more challenging than on the previous day but this did not deter the winners who came in with a superb score of 48 points. Elavon Financial Services were sponsoring for the first time in St. Helen's Bay, with huge crowds in attendance for the presentation.
Day three was a day of two halves, with the morning being quite calm and the afternoon with high winds, which didn't deter Ann Moran (31) from bringing in a terrific score of 51 points, and Ann O'Mahony (36) in second place with 48 points. What fantastic scoring ladies. We are most grateful to Flogas for their ongoing and generous sponsorship.
Day four saw Una Griffin-Jones of Luv U sponsor beautiful jewellery from her silver collection which looked magnificent on the presentation table. Well done to St. Helen's lady Janet Slattery (22) with 42 points on winning this lovely prize.

The ladies' committee were most grateful for all the sponsorship during the week including Whites Hotel and the Talbot Hotel who kindly arranged a beautician to be in attandance each day, and a personal trainer was on hand to give the ladies some hints on how to improve their golf through diet and exercise. This was hugely beneficial.
A big thank you to Hugh from The Wishing Well, Blackrock, for all the vouchers for the winners of the birdies on the 16th, which was a lovely touch, and also to Kelly's Hotel, Rosslare, for their generous sponsorship on the eleventh hole nearest the pin. Congratulations to Liz and her staff who were on hand all week to keep everyone fed and watered. A big thanks to Kevin and his team for the wonderful conditions of the course all through the week. Even the difficult pin positions were appreciated and acknowledged, but didn't deter the ladies.
Well done to proprietors Mari, Larry, Catherine in the pro shop, pro Glen and their staff who were on hand all week to make sure everything went off smoothly for the ladies. Thank you to all the gents who participated in our nine-hole in the evenings. We will endeavour to ascertain who recovered the priceless PRO-V from the green and if Stephen, our club pro, will accept the putt as a gimme for the 2's.
Commiserations to our Duggan Cup team who put up a good fight and to get to this stage in the tournament is a great achievement. We wish the Jim Whitney Shield team the best of luck today (Wednesday). Chapel Lane Service Station will sponsor this week's gents' Senior open Singles on Thursday.
