A real festive atmosphere prevailed on Thursday last when our Annual Christmas Outing took place. There was a near full capacity of members who turned up for the golf and dinner. Sixteen teams went out in cold but dry weather with a stiff north westerly wind increasing to near gale force as the day progressed. Scoring was difficult enough even with placing as the greens were slow and many putts were left agonisingly short. In the end after a count back the better back nine of Dick Cuddihy (11), Tony Wallace (16) Paddy Bennett (19) and Jamesie Murphy (21) whose team scored 87 points was good enough to capture the spoils or to be more politically correct "the Paddy Whiskey". Second spot was filled by Denis Kirwan (12), Willie Whitty, (16), John Fleming (20), and Brian Dolan (28) also with 87 points. Hugh O'Connor (14), Luke Power (18), John Vereker (18) and Aidan O'Connor (21) with 85 points claimed third prize.
Nearest the pin prizes kindly sponsored by Willie Rochford of the Restaurant went to Jim Meggs, Willie Whitty, John Ronan and Tony Wallace. Our golfers of the year also received their prizes and they were, Cat 1, John Kennedy, Cat 2, Pat Traynor, Cat 3, Dick Cahill, Cat 4, Richard Byrne
Many thanks must go to Kevin Treacy who organised all the prizes and to Willie Rochford and his staff from the restaurant who served us up a fabulous meal after the golf.
It's back to basics this Thursday with the usual draw for teams at 10.45 a.m. sharp.
