ST. JOHN'S VOLUNTEERS

Wednesday March 10 2010

What a lovely weekend is was - cold but the sun was shining and round one of the All-County Football League started for the Volunteers club.

The B team, all 16 of them, played Taghmon-Camross on Saturday. Both sides had a few misses but Taghmon-Camross came out the stronger and won by 0-9 to 0-5. The club would like to thank Taghmon for the food supplied after the match.

Sunday evening was as sunny and the Volunteers turned out a full team with six substitutes to play Monageer-Boolavogue. Again the Vols had a few misses but the determination of the men didn't show on the scoreboard and Monageer-Boolavogue won by 1-14 to 1-7.

It's only round one and I feel the men will do better in the next round, which is a double-header at home on Sunday - Volunteers v. Davidstown-Courtnacuddy at 3 p.m. and Volunteers B v. Starlights B at 4.30 p.m., so let's get behind our club and come out to cheer the men on. Hope to see you all on Sunday.

The lotto was held in The Crown Bar - numbers 3,4,6, 25. There was no jackpot winner, or match three winner.

Next week's jackpot will be € 5,550. Thank you all for your continued support.

Calling all ladies who wish to play football for the Volunteers, we are putting a team together and we need a few more - meeting in Mannix Place on Tuesday at 8.30 p.m., see you there.

Anyone looking for club merchandise, Jim Turner is our new representative and he can be contacted on 087-2466237 and will look after all of your requirements in this area.
