RAPPAREES-STARLIGHTS

The A.G.M. of Rapparees-starlights G.A.A. club took place in the Bellefield clubhouse on Sunday, January 15. The 55-strong attendance heard Maria Nolan read the Secretary's report in which she thanked the outgoing Chairman, John Browne, all her executive committee colleagues and indeed all who were working in any way for the betterment of the club.

She outlined the many highlights over the year on the field of play, in particular the Juvenile football win and the Minor hurlers bridging a 21-year gap to take the county title. She said that she had great hopes for the 2012 season and looked forward to seeing the Starlights regain their Senior football status. She promised to continue working to the best of her ability for Bellefield.

Pádraig Hall then presented the accounts, giving a detailed analysis of all income and expenditure in the previous 12 months and thanking all those who work so hard week in and week out on the club's two main fundraisers, lotto and bingo.

The outgoing Chairman, John Browne, then made his address, thanking all his fellow officers and all the executive members, all the people helping with lotto and bingo, field, camogie, Coiste na nog, ladies' football, race night committees, and particularly Martin Collins, Jim Nolan and Martin Kirwan for painting the hall and having it ready for the A.G.M.

He thanked all players, trainers, managers, selectors, and indeed anyone who had anything to do with the teams in 2011. He congratulated Ger and Bridgie Collins who celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary at Bellefield the night before. He congratulated our Jim Byrne Cup team who had beaten Craanford earlier in the day to gain their place in the semi-final of the competition.

He said that he had always endeavoured to improve Bellefield in any way he could, both on and off the field, and he said that he looked forward to Pádraig Hall's term of office as Chairman and would work with him and give him all the help he could. He extended sympathies to the Hall family on the death of Kay who was a staunch and loyal member of the club, and above all a lady to all she encountered.

In his address as new Chairman, Pádraig Hall said he looked forward to a successful year at Bellefield both on and off the field and asked all members to continue to support the club and to be active, If you are not active, you are not part of it , he said. He paid tribute to John Browne for all the work he had done for the club, not just in his threeyear term of office but over the years.

New committee: Chairman, Pádraig Hall; Secretary, Maria Nolan; Treasurer, Kathleen Miller; Coiste na nog Chairman, Tommy Foley; camogie Chairman, John Boland; Ed Doran, Michael Doyle, Tom Boland, Pat Hall, Pat Tobin, Hugo Kelly, Paddy Sullivan, John Browne, Fiacre Ryan, Nicky Murphy.

Well done to Benny Travers who represented Naomh Eanna gallantly on Saturday last as he captained Wexford in their opening Walsh Cup game with N.U.I. Galway. The Minor footballers beat Duffry Rovers by two points in their Cullen Cup game on Sunday last.
