MONAGEER-BOOLAVOGUE: Our Intermediate hurlers overcame the challange of last year's Junior championship winners, Craanford, in the championship on Saturday last. Early scores were hard to come by, but a goal settled us down. Still, we only had one goal and three points after 20 minutes.

Scores were exchanged to the break where we went in up by two points. Crannford came out and had their third man yellow-carded as we found the back of the net three more times to run out winners on a final score of 4-10 to 111. Despite this comprehensive win, we depend on games going our way in the last round to secure advancement in the championship which does not look likely.

The Juniors played earlier on Saturday afternoon and, despite being down by 110 to 0-1 at the break, came back to lose out by 1-16 to 1-12 in the end to Duffry Rovers. This sees them into the relegation play-off.

The Under-14s played their last game of the season against St. Patrick's and lost by six points. It was 1-4 apiece at the break, but the opposition, with three county players, proved too strong in the end. Well done to this group and in particular the Under-12s who helped out all season to fulfil the fixtures. Without them this team would not have played.

Our Under-10s played Davidstown in a football game on Friday evening and came away with a comprehensive win.

The finishing touches are being put to the new gym, the official opening of which will take place very soon. Please keep a look-out for the opening of this vaulable new addition to the club.

On the county front, our three underage reps. all saw action over last weekend. Brian Dwyer played on the Under16s who were in Tipperary, losing to Offaly by a point and beating Laois by six. This put them into the shield in which, after two periods of extra-time, Limerick ran out winners by three points.

James Gahan played with the Under16 development squad and they also advanced to the shield semi-final where they went down to Roscommon.

Graham O'Reilly was our representative on the Under-14 county team and, while we competed well, only going down to Waterford by two points, we lost all three games. Well done to all concerned for representing our club on the county stage.

All roads lead to St. Patrick's Park on Friday evening next for the Minor hurling final at 6.45 p.m. This should be a great game if the meeting of these two sides previously is anything to go by. All support is gladly welcome.

DUFFRY ROVERS

Monday night last saw Jim Jordan's Under-16 team take on Liam Mellows in the Division 4 hurling quarter-final in Coolree and, despite a great team performance, the Duffry were knocked out of the championship on a 2-8 to 1-3 scoreline.

Our Under-12 football team won their second-last match against Ballyhogue in Bree in Division 5 North on Tuesday night. Their last outing of the season will be in the festival of football on September 25.

On Saturday afternoon our Junior hurling team played Monageer in Patrick's Park and came out convincing winners by four points (1-16 to 1-12).

Fixtures for the coming week include: Wednesday, Under-16 football Division 4 football play-off against St. Pat's in Coolree. On Thursday next the Under-14 football team play Oylegate in their last round of Division 5 North in coolree.

On Saturday next our Junior 'C' footballers play in the championship semifinal against Buffers Alley in Farmleigh at 4.30 p.m.

Finally, another reminder of our golf classic on September 10. There is still a limited number of spaces left to enter teams. Any donations for raffle prizes or sponsors of tees will be gratefully appreciated.

BUFFERS ALLEY

Well done to both the Senior and Junior hurlers who had victories over Rapparees at the weekend and have now earned themselves places in the semi-finals.

The Juniors played their game in Hollymont and had a comfortable win, whereas the Seniors had to endure extra-time to secure their place in the final four of the championship. Well done to all concerned.

This coming weekend the Junior footballers are in action in the semi-final of the competition when they play Duffry Rovers in Farmleigh at 4.30 p.m. on Saturday.

The Intermediate camogie side bowed out of the championship at the semi-final stage on Friday last at the hands of Glynn-Barntown.

The Under-16 girls will play the county semi-final on Saturday next. The details have not yet been announced and supporters are asked to check locally.

Good luck to the Buffers Alley/St. Patrick's Minor boys who will play Crossabeg-Ballymurn in the Co. semi-final on Friday next at 6.45 p.m.

RAPPAREES-STARLIGHTS

In glorious autumnal sunshine, Bellefield officailly opened its field once again to host the finals of the Michael Foley Memorial Under-15 Leinster hurling tournament on Saturday last.

A more suitable occasion for the opening would be difficult to find as Wexford's young hopefuls dished up a display of hurling to the delight of the large attendance, and a more fitting tribute to the memory of Michael would be impossible as his son, Kevin, received the cup on behalf of a Wexford team which completely outhurled and outclassed a Kilkenny side from start to finish - in fact, one could say that the script had been written in heaven, with the final result being Wexford 3-11, Kilkenny 0-5!

This excellent side had already beaten Kildare, Antrim and Laois to get to the final. Earlier Wexford's 'B' team defeated Carlow to win the Plate final, making it two out of two for Wexford, with Dublin defeating Antrim in the Shield.

Well done to the Michael Foley Bursary committee for organising the event and to Michael Kinsella, co-ordinator, and particularly to Bellefield and all who worked tremendously hard for the past two weeks to have the pitch and the premises in pristine condition for the special occasion.

Well done to the club who had a total of eight players representing their county last weekend - Darragh Pepper and Caolan Carty with the Under-14 team in the Tony Forristal Cup, Kevin Ryan and Seánie O'Gorman with the county Under-16s, Padge 'Skinner' Walsh (selector), Kevin Foley and Aaron Sinnott with the Under-15 'A' team, and Liam Ryan and Fionn Carty with the Under-15 'B' team.

It is every young player's dream and ambition to play for his county and it is every club's obligation to see that he gets his chance to do so - it would seem that we are fulfilling our obligations at Bellefield.

A special mention for Nicky Kehoe who refereed the finals and has the distinction of being the first official referee on the new Bellefield, and well done to 'Heffo' Walsh and his selectors who had these Wexford teams in peak condition and hurling at the highest standard.

The Under-10, Under-12 and Under-14 camogie teams travelled to the St. Ibar's 50th anniversary blitz on Saturday too, with our Under-10s sweeping all before them and winning the tournament with an unbeaten display.

The Under-12s made it all the way to the final and were unluky to be beaten, and the Under-14s put up some excellent displays against more experienced opponents.

Our camogie weekend culminated with a very enjoyable barbeque for players, parents and club members on the back field and an excellent evening was had by all.

Many thanks to Martin Doyle & Sons, Bill Kavanagh, Wickham Bros., G.H. Lett and H. Murphy & Sons for their generous sponsorship.

Our Under-10 footballers did remarkably well on Wednesday evening last at Bellefield, winning the Kent Stainless tournament, and well done to all concerned.

However, all our good news this week begins and ends with our under-age - unfortunately both our adult teams, Senior and Junior, were beaten by Buffers Alley on Saturday in Hollymount and Wexford Park.

Our Juniors were well beaten by 2-12 to 0-9, but our Seniors put up a fight to the end and indeed should have won the game in the 60 minutes but could only manage the draw, forcing extratime.

It would have been nice to go a step further and make it to the semi-final stage, but some missed chances and dubious refereeing decisions saw us trailing at the final whistle by 0-22 to 116, thus ending our championship hopes for 2010.

But might I say we have a young side that is improving and there is good groundwork done and hopefully good prospects for the future.

The Starlights Senior football team are out in the semi-final of the 'B' championship at 3.30 p.m. on Saturday against Gusserane in O'Kennedy Park, New Ross, and all support is welcome.

GERALDINE O'HANRAHANS

The Under-10 hurlers had a fanastic win over St. Pat's in Wexford Park on Wednesday evening last in the Pat Neville Cup final by 9-2 to 0-3 in a highly-entertaining match.

All the Ross boys stood up to the plate. Best for Ross were A. Cash, B. Walshe, M. Stafford, P. Bailey and D. Kehoe who all led by example.

Well done and congratulations to all the boys on the Under-10 team.

Thank you also to all the supporters who came from New Ross to shout the boys on.

We would also like to thank Thomas Purcell who trains the boys, better known as 'Saucy' to the team, for his time and dedication to the GOH.

Team: Jack Hearne, P. Somers, B. Walshe, M. Foran, C. Walshe, P. Bailey, J. Butler, P. Richardson, M. Stafford, D. Kehoe, A. Cash, C. McDonald, J. O'Gorman, C. Murphy, P. Connors, C. Burnett, K. Rice, I. Stafford, L. Connors, Scott Radford, G. Berry.

The Under-12 hurlers played St. Anne's last week and lost by 2-1 to 0-2. Team: T. Wright, E. Fenlon, G. Cash, E. Kelly, K. Murphy, T. Connors, M. Cullen, J. Holden, N. Connors, J. Buckley, L. Connors.

Well done to the boys who were two points down late in the second-half. They will play their next Go Game tonight (Tuesday) against Glynn-Barntown.

ST. JAMES'

The ladies' football Intermediate side strolled into the Co. final on Monday last with a 3-20 to 1-2 win against HWH-Bunclody.

The girls raced into a strong position early on and were ahead by 0-10 to 0-2 at half-time.

They upped their scoring rate in the second-half to leave the Gorey District side with no reply.

Scorers: Catherine Doyle (1-7), Kellie Mullan (1-5), Bríd Kehoe (0-4), Sarah Hearn (1-0), Sonja Murphy, Aisling Mullan, Sarah O'Brien and Chelsea Molloy (0-1 each).

They now play the Co. final on Sunday next, September 5, at 12.30 p.m. in Wexford Park. Everyone from the club is urged to get out and support the team.

The Under-8 and Under-7 football teams travelled to play Cushinstown in the football league recently.

The Under-8 team suffered their first defeat of the league on a scoreline of 64 to 2-2 despite playing some great spells of football and conjuring up many attempts on goal.

St. James': Alfie Eite, Cameron Kenny, Keelan Foley, Rory Lynch, Daniel Behan, Tomás Barron, Ben McPhillips, Darragh McPhillips, Pádraig Barron, Sam Wallace.

The Under-7 football team came home with another win on a scoreline of 12-6 to 1-2.

St. James': Mark Whitty, Josh Keating, Bríd Walsh, Shane Dunne, Ciarán McPhillips, Colm Fitzgerald, Joe McPhillips, Ciara Walsh, Jamie Foley, Aoife Connolly, Stephen Clarke.
