A big thank you to everyone in the preparations for the annual Coiste na nÓg field day. For the people who donated for the bottle stand, cake stand, car boot sale, and gave a hand in any way, thank you.

Without these people it would not be a success. So far the club has raised €3,500. The clothes collection made €210 and we will be running this collection again. More details in later weeks on this.

Congratulations to all the students from the club who received their Leaving Cert. results last week.

On the development, it seems to be coming to the last stages. The roof is on, windows and doors are being fitted this week, and the dressing-rooms will be getting fitted out. It's all looking good.

SHELMALIERS

Continuing on from the enormous success of last year's barbeque, we are pleased to inform you that this year's Shelmalier Monster Autumn barbeque will take place in the Hollymount Complex on Saturday, September 4.

The tickets are again priced at €15 and they can be purchased from Flanagan's Castlebridge, Freddie's Screen and Hotel Curracloe. You can also purchase these tickets in the Hollymount Complex on the following dates: Tuesday 24th, Thursday 26th and Monday 30th from 7.30 to 8.30 p.m.

We would also ask you to purchase your ticket a soon as possible as the attendance is limited.

The Under-12 hurlers recently competed in the Garda Community Policing tournament in Rosslare. It consisted of eight teams with Faythe Harriers, Glynn-Barntown and St. Mary's in our group. We defeated the Harriers and Glynn at the group stage while drawing with St. Mary's.

We topped the group and met St. Martin's in the semi-final. In an excellent game, the teams finished level at full time.

A goal in extra-time from the Shels boys sent them through to the final where St. Mary's were waiting.

The final was a one-sided affair with our boys playing some excellent hurling and running out easy winners.

Captain Aaron O'Neill accepted the trophy on behalf of his team-mates, while Mark Power won player of the tournament.

Full squad: Kyle Roche, Dan Campbell, Nathan Murphy, James Doyle, Jordan Hunt, Kevin Harte, Richard Kinsella, Michael O' Rourke, Craig Parker, Conor Hearne, Seán Keane, Mark Power, Stuart Fanning, Christopher Cowman, Adam Hearne, Cillian Tobin, Peter Doyle, Adam Howlin, Niall Hearne, Aaron O'Neill.

The Under-21 footballers put in a fantastic performance on Monday evening in Adamstown to eventually overcome the home team by 0-9 to 0-8.

Brian Tobin scored the clinching point in the 29th minute of the second-half to secure the Shels' passage into the semi-final and a meeting with St. Martin's tonight (Wednesday) in Hollymount at 7 p.m.

Our Minor footballers finished their group stages unbeaten with a very exciting victory over Starlights at home recently. Good work from both teams meant the sides were level at the break.

In the second-half good play from the Starlights left the home team trailing by three points with only eleven minutes left, and at this stage our unbeaten record looked very shaky.

But it was at this stage that this team showed what they are really made of and reeled off five unanswered points, with McCabe, Gordon and Niall Tobin among the scorers, in a storming finish to end up winners by 0-12 to 0-10. All reports in full on www.shelmaliers.ie There was no winner of last week's lotto. Numbers drawn were 2, 18, 21 and 29. One match three winner, Kitty Roche, receives €200. Next week's jackpot will be €8,400.

CLONARD

Under-age training continues as normal this week: Under-6s every Wednesday, 6-7 p.m.; Under-8s, Monday (hurling) and Wednesday (football), 7-8 p.m.; Under-10s, Monday and Wednesday, 6-7 p.m.; Under12, 14, 16, Tuesday 6.30-8 p.m. (hurling), Thursday 6.30-8 p.m. (football) and every Sunday, 11-12.30 p.m., hurling training.

Our Under-12 hurlers had a good win over Clongeen on Tuesday night last and our Under-14 footballers beat Ferns on Thursday night in the last round of their championship.

They have now qualified for a semi-final and are also through to a quarter-final in hurling and remain unbeaten to date which is a fantastic achievement.

This age group have shown fantastic commitment, skill and teamwork throughout and we wish them all the best in their upcoming games and ask that as many supporters as possible get out and offer support and encouragement to the lads in their remaining fixtures.

Our annual summer camp was held two weeks ago where great fun was had by everyone who attended.

We had 70 children from age five up to 13 years of age. We would like to say a big thank you to all those who gave up their time to make this year's camp such a huge success.

The camp had many activities which included hurling, football, relay races, fun games and arts and crafts to keep everyone in attendance fully entertained from start to finish.

The Under-6s even went on a hike to Redmond Park and had a great time. We would like to say a special big thank you to Patrick Dobbs who gave up his time and expertise to create the biggest obstacle course we have ever seen for every age group.

Our Junior footballers were in championship action on Sunday last. Oylegate provided the opposition in the quarter-final out in Taghmon.

In a game of high intensity filled with great action and tension throughout, it was another nail-biting finish as we have come to expect from this committed and determined bunch of players. Trailing at the break by one point and with their backs against the wall, they came out and gave a hugely-spirited second-half performance.

The game ebbed and flowed throughout and was score for score for the duration. However, a strong finish from the Clonard lads and two superb late points, one from substitute John Cleary and the other from Mark O'Connor who was excellent throughout, ensured a two-point victory in a highscoring and entertaining encounter.

The final scoreline was 0-17 to 1-12 and it sends us through to a semi-final to be played in two to three weeks.

This team has yet to play to its full potential but has shown tremendous heart and fighting spirit to win through in some tight championship encounters in recent weeks. This bunch of players have given their all for the club down through the years and deserve some reward for their efforts this year.

They are now in the semi-final and just 60 minutes away from a county final and being promoted to Intermediate (as both finalists go up this year due to re-structuring).

We would ask that when the draw is made and the semi-final fixture is announced that all club members and parishioners get behind the team and offer their support, as every little bit helps.

The club would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all club members who have recently received results from their state exams, both Junior and Leaving Cert. We would like to wish them all the best in their future endeavours.

GLYNN-BARNTOWN

Our Senior football team are in a very serious position after a disappointing loss to the Starlights on Saturday. We are now one of the four bottom teams and three will be relegated.

We must win our next game and then the game after that to survive. At least we are clear on what is required. Our Juniors' run in the championship came to an end on Sunday when they were overpowered in the second-half by Davidstown.

A series of crucial games take place next weekend. Our Intermediate camogie team are at home on Friday evening against Buffers Alley for a place in the county final. We hope a big crowd will come out and support the girls.

The barbeque will be on and the bar will be open for a pre/post game drink. Unfortunately, the game clashes with our Junior hurlers' final game of the league stage where they need a big win away to Ballyhogue to progress.

On Saturday our hurlers look to maintain Senior status when they face Cushinstown at 2 p.m. in Taghmon.

Later on Saturday evening our Under-10s will play in the final of the Kent Cup against our Under-10s. We entered two teams in the competition and it works out they eventually meet.

This should be a fun and novel occasion, so please come down to the complex to support. Details of all fixtures are on www.glynnbarntown.wexford.gaa.ie.

Our Under-21s have an opportunity for a remarkable double. Following their Premier hurling success, last Monday they played the Premier football semi-final.

Check the website for details as the final is scheduled for Tuesday next in Wexford Park.
