Best wishes also to Edel Dodd who has been appointed club Registrar, and well done to Dean Walsh who won a Leinster boxing title recently along with another clubman, Jack Robinson.

Our under-age teams have been graded as follows: Under-12, Division 1 South; Under-14, Division 2; Juvenile, Division 1; Minor, Division 2. Friday's committee meeting agreed that the Brendan Redmond Memorial Under-10 tournament will go ahead for the 17th successive year, albeit with altered rules to satisfy the whims of the people with too much time to spare in Croke Park. The old adage that a little power in the wrong hands can be a bad thing springs readily to mind.

The club will be holding a series of registration nights in Páirc Charman at 7.30 p.m. on the dates listed hereunder, and we are encouraging all players and their parents to attend to finalise annual membership and hear about our plans for the year: Friday, March 5, Under-10; Monday, March 8, Under-12, Juvenile and Minor; Tuesday, March 9, Under-14.

Vodafone are running a scheme whereby 5% of your bill or top-up is automatically donated to the club. To sign up, contact Kevin Carty (085-1744521).

Last week's quiz: The only clubman to play with Wexford in the Leinster Senior football championship during the 1970s was Peter Doyle who manned the goal against Kildare in Croke Park on June 6, 1970. The other four who featured in either the National League or O'Byrne Cup were Billy Howlin in 1970, John Nolan in 1972, 1973 and 1974, John Walker in 1976 and 1977, and John Goff in 1979.

This week's question: After Peter Doyle's appearance in 1970, who was the next clubman to line out in the Leinster Senior football championship?

SHELMALIERS

The Seana Ghael awards recognise the contribution of people involved with their local G.A.A. clubs over the decades, and this year's recipients from Shelmaliers were Ollie Hearne and Michael Hearne, Curracloe, who received their awards along with 62 other stalwarts across the county in the Ferrycarrig Hotel recently.

Well done to Eoin Doyle, Ballybeg, Screen, who made his hurling inter-county league debut for Wexford against Westmeath on Sunday last alongside regular player Stephen Banville, Ardcavan. The two men gave great performances and did their club proud and helped Wexford to a solid win.

Brian Malone, Oldtown, and David Walsh, Poulsac, were on the successful Senior Wexford football team which beat Offaly in Wexford Park recently. Both men played in defence and had pivotal roles in Wexford's win.

André O'Brien, Mullinagore, Castlebridge, played wing-back on the Wexford Under-21 football team which met Louth on Saturday last. Unfortunately, Louth proved too strong for this youthful team. Well done lads, you did the club proud.

The Minor team got the new season under way on Sunday morning last when we travelled to Killurin to take on GlynnBarntown in a practice match. Despite being several players short through either holidays or injury, we still had a very good run-out against the Killurin lads.

The game included a return to action for Con Ó Donnagáin after a seven-month absence through a hand injury. Training for the Minor team continues every Wednesday on the all-weather arena at 7.30 p.m. The Minor championship commences at the end of March.

GLYNN-BARNTOWN

Our Minor hurling team started the year with a run-out on Sunday morning against the Harriers. It was a useful workout for both teams although both were short one or two key players.

Over 50 club members returned from Budapest on Sunday last, tired but happy following another very enjoyable trip organised by Jim McGovern. Thanks to Jim and the small team he gathers around him to organise these trips. Tales and tall tales of what happened on tour will emerge in the coming weeks.
