GLYNN-BARNTOWN were well deserving of their five-point winning margin over the St. James' and Horeswood combination known as Dunbrody Gaels at Mersheen on Monday of last week in the semi-final of the Captain Michael Baker Under-21 football Premier championship.

The winners were well on top from an early stage, building up a lead of 17 before Jack O'Brien scored the first Dunbrody point five minutes before the interval.

The margin would have been even greater only for two top-class saves early on by the Dunbrody 'keeper, John Ryan.

The Glynn-Barntown goal was scored from the penalty spot by Mark Fanning in the 23rd minute, with Craig Doyle, Pa Greene and Alan Cowman having pointed from play before then, while Fanning also showed good accuracy from frees and a '45.

The margin between them was increased to 1-10 to 0-2 before Matthew O'Hanlon rushed in to score the first Dunbrody goal twelve minutes into the second-half, while his first cousin, Michael, accounted for their second six minutes from the end which reduced the margin to just three points.

Glynn-Barntown never looked likely to lose however, and John Leacy with a punched point and Seán Fortune from a Jimmer O'Reilly pass brought their winning margin to five just before the end.
