AS THE Government prepares to introduce household meter payments for are source we all take for granted, the question of how much water we use is set to become a daily preoccupation.

The following is a an average estimate of the quantity of water used or wasted in routine household and personal hygiene tasks. Flushing a toilet â?“ 8 litres. Oral hygiene â?“ 8 litres a day (if tap is left running) A gravity shower â?“ 35 litres. Power shower â?“ 80 litres. Washing machine â?“ 65 litres a wash. Dish washer â?“ 25 litres. Watering the garden â?“ 540 litres. Washing car by bucket â?“ 32 litres Washing car with hose â?“ 400 litres
