Two local candidates are elected in Co. Kilkenny
JUST TWO of the ten local election hopefuls contesting in both the Kilkenny County Council and Carlow County Council elections attained a coveted seat last weekend.
Glenmore woman Fidelis Doherty was elected to Kilkenny County Council on the tenth count with a total vote of 1,493.
'It was a painful wait. I suspected I would come in but it was so nerve wracking,' said Fidelis, who is following in her grandfather Phil Mahoney's footsteps, who was a Kilkenny County Councillor.
Meanwhile, Labour Party's Ann Phelan from Brandondale, Graiguenamanagh, who received 1,183 first preference votes, was elected on the sixth count to Kilkenny County Council.
