Nine Wexford schools in top 400 feeders to 3rd level

Nine County Wexford schools are among the top 400 feeder schools to third level educational establishments in Ireland.A more comprehensive league table published this week shows the percentages of Wexford students from different schools who entered all third level colleges in September, including technology institutes.

A more comprehensive league table published this week shows the percentages of Wexford students from different schools who entered all third level colleges in September, including technology institutes.

The top ranking school in County Wexford was the FCJ secondary school in Bunclody which sent 86.7% of its students to third level education, including universities and institutes.

The Loreto Convent in Wexford came in second place locally with 78% of students going on to university, colleges of education and institutes of technology.

St. Peter's College came third with 74.4% followed by Enniscorthy CBS with 73.3%; Good Counsel College, New Ross, 72.2%; Scoil Mhuire, New Ross, 70.4%; Holy Faith Secondary School, New Ross, 69.4%; Wexford CBS, 59.4% and Coláiste Bride, Enniscorthy, 58.6%.

Six County Wexford schools feature in the top 200 feeder schools to Institutes of Technology.

Top of the county list was Adamstown Vocational College which sent 42.1% of its students to Carlow, Galway and Waterford Institutes of Technology.

In second place was Scoil Mhuire, New Ross with 39.4%; the FCJ secondary school, Bunclody, 38.9%; Good Counsel College, New Ross, 38%; Ramsgrange Community School 37.5% and Enniscorthy CBS, 32%.

Two County Wexford schools were placed in the top 50 feeder schools to Teacher Training Colleges, including FCJ secondary school, Bunclody which sent seven students to St. Patrick's, Drumcondra and one student to the Merino Institute.

The Presentation secondary school in Wexford also sent seven students to St. Pat's and one to the Merino Institute.

The list is the most comprehensive available so far for the 2007/2008 first year intake and was published by the Irish Independent on Monday.
