New Ross man made threat to slit wife's throat
A PROBATION report has been sought in the case of a New Ross man who threatened to slit his estranged wife's throat when he breached a safety order on February 24.
George Lacey, 111 Irishtown, New Ross, was arrested after he entered the home of Mary Lacey in Bishopsland, New Ross, and pushed her and threatened to slit her throat.
Wexford District Court was told on Thursday that the defendant entered the house at 6.50 p.m. and went up the stairs where he had dispute with his estranged wife over access to their children.
Mary Lacey took out her phone to ring the Gardaí but the defendant grabbed it.
Mary Lacey managed to get the phone back fom him and called the Gardaí. She said that he had threatened to slit her throat, and he made the threat again in the presence of the Gardaí when they arrived, the court was told.
The defendant, who is taking anti-depressants, had consumed alcohol on the day.
The court was also told that Mary Lacey had not 'dropped the children down' to the defendant on the day.
Judge Anderson heard that there were marital difficulties and George Lacey has a 'history of depressive illness'.
The case was adjourned until May 11 to allow for the preparation of a Probation Report. George Lacey gave an undertaking to stay away from alcohol and to have no contact with Mary Lacey.
