GREAT CROWD AT SCHOOLS CHESS EVENT

YOUNG CHESS enthusiasts gathered in great numbers in the Brandon House Hotel on Saturday for a morning full of chess action.
A total of 71 players from primary schools throughout the county, aged from under-8 to under-12, played seven games throughout the competition, which was organised by the Wexford Chess Group.
Results: Under 8 – 1, Brian Stafford from New Ross; 2, Mebh Whitty from New Ross. U9 – 1, Robert Kelly from Gorey; 2, Barry Kenny from Gorey; 3, Michael Foran from New Ross. U10 – 1, Luke Corish from Crossabeg; 2, Garbhan McCormack from Gaelscoil Charman; 3, Anna Holden from New Ross. U11 – 1, Conor Kehoe from Ballyroebuck NS; 2, John Kavanagh from Ballyroebuck NS; 3, Tom Cleary from Gorey CBS. U12 – 1, Stuart Frizelle from New Ross; 2, Evan Kinlough from Crossabeg; 3, Polly Maher from Oylegate. U13 – 1, Brendan Chambers of Gorey CBS; 2, Casper Slowikows from Gorey CBS; 3, Neil Randall from Kilrane NS.
The overall winner was Katie Neville from Oylegate NS, with Alex Byrne from Gorey CBS in second.
