International fishing trials at Oaklands

Wednesday March 03 2010

ANGLERS FROM all over Ireland converged on Oaklands Lake in Marshmeadows over the weekend for International Trials.

Fishing enthusiasts from Cork, Dublin, Cavan, Monaghan, Fermanagh, Roscommon, Carlow, Armagh and Tyrone fished for the Irish team qualifiers at the lake on Saturday and Sunday.

This was the first time that international trials have been fished outside of Ulster or Connaught. It is very hard to get a match of this high quality out of those areas so it was a good shop window for New Ross as all of the anglers stayed the weekend.

The Munster League Final will now be held on March 28 and the next national match to be held at Oaklands will be the Junior All-Ireland on May 29.
