CELEBRATIONS WERE in order for Fr. Pat Codd in Good Counsel College on Monday as he celebrated 58 years in the priesthood.
The well-known Rathnure native celebrated the anniversary of his ordination with a concelebrated Mass by Fr. John Hennebry and Fr. Michael Collendar with sixth year students and a reception with the staff of the college in the dining room afterwards.
Fr. Codd attended God Counsel College before studying for the priesthood. He was ordained in Rome and his first appointment was back to his alma mater teaching Greek.
He remained teaching in New Ross while waiting to take up an appointment to a newly founded mission in Australia.
Fr. Codd worked all his life in Australia serving in Augustinian schools there and also working in the formation of Augustinians students for the priesthood, before returning to Ireland around 12 years ago to take up a position in the Augustinian Church in O'Connell Street in Limerick.
He has now since returned to New Ross where he is based in Good Counsel College and keeps a keen eye on Rathnure's hurling team as well as helping out in his native parish.
