A GARDA investigation is underway after part of the former VTOS building in the Irishtown was destroyed following a blaze on Sunday night.
Some twenty fire fighters fought the blaze, which broke out at the listed building just after 8 p.m.
Two units from New Ross Fire Service were dispatched to the scene and they were assisted by a further tender from Wexford and a hydraulic platform from Enniscorthy Fire Service.
The blaze was confined to one wing of the building at the rear, however up to four rooms and the roof were completely destroyed.
The scene was preserved for a technical examination and Gardai are now investigating the possibility that the fire was started intentionally.
Gardai are now appealing for any information in relation to the fire and are interested in speaking to anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the area at the time.
The building, which is known locally as the former VTOS centre once formed part of the old Mercy Convent and has been lying vacant for the past number of years.
