HORSE OWNERS who left their animals grazing at the Maudlins Pond last week have been slammed by the Cathaoirleach of New Ross Town Council after they destroyed the newly renovated garden.
Local resident Victor Furness has hit-out at the 'disgraceful' state of the picturesque area, which was torn up by a number of horses.
'If they cannot afford food for their animals they should not be letting them graze on private property. They are damaging public and private property because of it and I am asking horse owners if they cannot feed their animals properly why have them,' said the Cathaoirleach.
'There was ¤6,000 spent on that garden and now it is spoilt and all the voluntary work that went into it. It is disgraceful,' he added.
The garden was given a muchneeded facelift in 2008 when the Tidy Towns group renovated the entire area, repaired broken seating, fenced off the garden, sowed new grass as well as draining the land and planting shrubbery and flowers.
