Case adjourned for man to pay up

Wednesday March 03 2010

A 38-YEAR-old man, charged with theft and criminal damage in Adamstown, had his court case adjourned until November for the monitoring of compensation payments.

Michael Fitzpatrick from 27 Woodview Drive, Adamstown, is charged with ten counts of theft and three counts of criminal damage between October 26, 2007 and April 5, 2009 at both Adamstown and in the village's community centre.

Defence solicitor Gerry Flynn said the matter was put back for compensation to be paid and so far ¤650 has been paid to one individual and ¤ 555 has been paid to the local community centre. The remaining balance is ¤ 1,340, which the defendant proposes to pay at a rate of ¤ 30 per week.

'The defendant is making honest and consistent efforts to pay compensation. At the present rate it would take him 45 weeks to pay it back,' said Mr. Flynn.

Judge Donnchadh O Buachalla adjourned the matter until November 9 to monitor the defendant's repayments.
