GAELIC GAMES

The U-21 footballers united with St James were beaten 1-13 to 2-5 by Glynn Barntown in the county semi-final in Mersheen last week. Playing against the wind in the first half they were outplayed, but put in a great 2nd half display but could not make up the deficit.

The Junior hurlers were beaten by Gusseranein the relegation semi final last Sunday and will now meet Monageer in the final game to decide who plays Junior C next year. Horeswood GAA Indoor Centre.

Coiste na nOg: The Under 14 footballers played their final group game at home to Kilrush last Thursday. They lost 1-8 to 3-8 but were already through to the county semi-final where they will meet Ballyhogue.

The under 16 footballers met Kilrush in their last game on Mon. needing a win to qualify. The under 14 hurlers will play Duffry Rovers in the quarter final in Horeswood next Monday September 6th at 6.30. The under 8 football tournament is progressing well with the finals to be played in Horeswood in a few weeks.

The under 12 hurlers will play their final blitz in Oylegate on Saturday September 11th at 11 am.

BOMBING HISTORY

Campile Hall was packed last Thursday when Nicky Furlong launched the history of the Campile Bombing in 1940.

Horeswood Historical Committee members Tom Grennan, John Flynn, Michael Walsh, Sean Crowley, Sean Caulfield and Jimmy Dunphy spent months researching and writing this 218 page account of the bombing which includes a large selection of photographs. It is on sale locally at €20.

BUS TO KNOCK

MONUMENT UNVEILING

A huge crowd attended the unveiling of the 3 beautifully sculpted monuments by Minister of State Sean Connick in the Memorial Garden on the site of the old Campile motor company last Saturday.

The large attendance was addressed by Development Committee Chairman Larry O'Brien, John Flynn, Chairman of the Historical Society, David Maher and the German Ambassador as well as Sean Connick who cut the ribbon.

Relatives of the 3 girls killed in the bombing and Co op employees at the time were among the guests. Among those who received much praise was Tom Grennan from the historical Society, the two sculptors and John and Geraldine Somers, owners of the old Co-op grounds who generously provided and developed the site.

BINGO IN CAMPILE

Come along to bingo in Campile Hall for an enjoyable night out in warm, comfortable, friendly surroundings. Its on every Monday night, starting at 8.30pm with weekly prize money of almost €1,000 There are also special games and a raffle and the weekly lotto draw is now at €1,000.

CAMPILE UNITED

The 40th Anniversary Dinner Dance is taking place in the Brandon Hotel on Friday 8th October. It is black tie and the tickets will be available from next week. Contact any committee member for enquiries about tickets.
