COUNTY FINAL
Gusserane's ladies footballers once again find themselves in a county final this year. They will face Crossabeg-Ballymurn in the junior A final in Wexford this coming Sunday at 10.30am. Hopefully the girls will build on what has been a very successful year and claim the title. Your support would be most welcome.
Well done meanwhile to the under 12 girls who secured their place in the county semi final with a win over St Annes in Ballycullane last Friday evening. They now face Ballygarrett in the semi final.
COOKERY
Well done to Mairead Redmond of Cloonagh on coming second in Ireland in the Chocolate Cook of the Year. Mairead's culinary skills have yielded many prizes in shows in recent years and she was just pipped for first place at the Moate Agricultural Show on Saturday last in what was the All Ireland final.
GAA NOTES
Well done to the Gusserane hurlers on maintaining their junior status in Kennedy Park, New Ross, last Sunday with a comprehensive win over Horeswood.
Best wishes meanwhile to the under 16 and under 14 hurlers in their quest for county titles. The juveniles play Askamore away on Friday evening of this week while the under fourteens are away to The Vols on Monday next. Both games are at the quarter final stage.
The next few weeks will be busy for the underage of the club as all teams, both hurling and football, have qualified for the knock out stages of their championships.
BRIAN RYAN
The death took place in his ninetieth year last week of Brianie Ryan of Garryduff. A hugely popular and inoffensive character in the area, Brianie leaves behind many friends and no enemies. Sincere sympathy is extended to his relations and many friends on his passing.
CARDS
Winners in Gusserane hall last week were Peggy Barden, Catherine Cadogan and Ann Duggan. Second went to Billy Power, James McDonald and David Murphy. Third were Larry Power, Paddy Whelan and Tom Curtis. The last game draw went to Eddie McDonald, Tom Corcoran and Kieran Keating. Raffle winners were Johnny Colfer, David Murphy, Tom Murphy and Paddy Murphy.
This week's card games will be tinged with sadness as the close-knit group realise that the popular Brianie Ryan will no longer be in attendance. Brianie sadly passed away last week. His absence will be all the more sorely felt due to the fact that in the fifteen years or so that the card games are on the go in Gusserane, he scarcely missed a night. As dheis De go raibh a ainm dilis.
SOCCER
The junior soccer season kicked off last weekend with the A and B teams in action. The A team travelled to Gorey where goals from Matty Flynn and Ken Cahill earned a 2-2 draw. The B team were unlucky to lose to Fastnet by 2 goals to one.
The club's Fantasy Football competition is hotting up now with many entrants bowing out after last weekend's Premiership results.
