Wednesday August 11 2010

SELSKAR Square in Wexford will be transformed into a cultural epicentre in just a couple of weeks when the annual Ceol Cé will be held there.

Wexford's only Irish-language cultural festival, the free Ceol Cé will be held on August 28

There will be lots to see and do on the day from traditional arts and crafts exhibitions, including basket making and pottery, to face painting and balloon sculpting for the kids.

There is also a very strong musical line-up as well with local acts such as Celtic Roots and talented singer-songwriters from the well established Red Chair sessions showcasing their talents. The Wexford Samba Group will bring a more international feel to the festival.

There will be a stage on the Main Street side of Selskar Square and Luan Parle, Clive Barnes and Gavin Ralston will kick things off there at 5.30 p.m. with the magical Gerry ' Banjo' Ó Connor playing at 7.15 p.m.

The evening finishes off in Selskar Square with the talented Liam Ó Maonlaí of the Hothouse Flowers. The festival finishes at 10.30 p.m.

' The principle aim of the festival is to get people speaking and hearing the Irish language in Wexford town in a more natural setting. We hope the atmosphere will be buzzing and that people from all areas of the county will come and support the féile,' said Na Macallaí development officer Richie Ó hEadhra.
