Great comedy is coming up
Wednesday March 03 2010
BEFORE YOU choose your summer holiday destination check out the Canaries in St. Michael's Theatre on Wednesday, March 10, Friday, March 12, and Saturday, March 13.
New Ross Drama Workshop is currently working hard in rehearsals to present their latest offering of the non-stop, hilarious comedy, arguably Bernard Farrell's best work.
Rehearsals are at an advanced stage and the motley cast of experienced and new are honing this situation comedy with a few weeks left until the performance.
In fact Dubliners and Hamburgers join a small group of Spaniards for three nights as they all attempt to escape their real lives, with unexpected consequences.
Marie and Tommy and Marie's father from Ringsend (Marianne Furlong, Tom Kent and Tom Doyle) fetch up in a hotel frequented by Irish holidaymakers. They form friendships with Jane and Richard (Margaret Dunne and John Dwyer) from Portmarnock.
Over the course of a week they also make the acquaintance with Fergus and Madelene (Peter O'Connor and Nancy Rochford-Flynn), who have some secrets of their own.
The Irishness is dispersed by Gunther ( Paul Walsh), who is a professor of psychology, and his secretary Erica (Nadia Ghaleina).
The hotel bar is run by Carlos (John Caulfield) and his grandmother the Contessa ( Pamela Dwyer). Samantha, the all-seeing holiday rep, is played by newcomer Sinéad O'Neill.
The play, which was rescheduled by three weeks due to flight delays and air traffic problems, is guaranteed to have every member of the audience bursting their sides with laughter. It is definitely anti-recessionary. All tickets are on sale at St. Michael's Theatre for ¤10. You can call at the box office in person, or ring 421255 or visit www.stmichaelsnewross.com.
